The recruiting email is the most over-thought, under-executed step in the whole process. Families agonize over the wording, send it to the wrong address, at the wrong time, and then wonder why nobody replied.
Keep it short and real
Coaches read hundreds of these. The ones that get a reply are specific: who you are, your grad year and position, a couple of honest numbers, a link to video, and one real sentence about why their program. No essays. No form letters blasted to fifty schools with the wrong coach’s name at the top.
Timing matters too — there are windows when coaches can and can’t respond. Learn the calendar for your grad year before you hit send, and you’ll save everyone the frustration.
